Dzięki pomocy wielu znajomych, których dane mi było poznać w trakcie podróży i nie tylko, uzyskałam wiele ciekawych informacji. Sposób świętowania różni się w zależności od państwa. Łączy nas jednak ogrom miłości i uznania dla naszych mam. Dziś chciałabym uczcić pamięć ich wszystkich. Dlatego podzielę się z Wami informacjami i wspomnieniami, jakie udało mi się zgromadzić. Very special day dedicated to all mothers, to show our appreciation and love in very exceptional way. Once a year, most of the countries around the world honor Mother’s Day. But is it celebrated through the world? That’s something I wanted to investigate. That’s the question I needed to answer.
Thanks to all crazy friends, I made all over the world, I could learned more about Mother’s Day customs. The way we celebrate differs among countries, but the amount of love we share, remains the same. Today, I would like to pay tribute to all of our mothers. Today, I would like to share with you information and memories I’ve gathered. It’s all about them and it’s all for them! All for our moms!

Dzień Mamy jest świętem kobiet, świętem macierzyństwa obchodzonym różnorodnie na całym świecie. Początki święta sięgają czasów starożytnych Greków i Rzymian. Również historia Anglii i Stanów Zjednoczonych pełna jest przykładów celebrowania macierzyństwa. Niemniej święto w obecnym wydaniu jest stosunkowo nowym fenomenem. Miliony ludzi na całym świecie (w różne dni – w zależności od państwa) korzysta z okazji, aby złożyć podziękowania swoim mamom. Dziękują im za wysiłek włożony w podarowanie życia, wychowanie oraz stałe i wierne wsparcie.
A little bit of history…
Mother’s Day is a holiday honoring motherhood that is observed in different forms throughout the world. Origin of Mother’s Day goes back to the era of ancient Greek and Romans. But the roots of Mother’s Day history can also be traced in UK where a Mothering Sunday was celebrated much before this festival saw the light of the day in US. Nevertheless the truth is, that the celebration of Mother’s Day is a recent phenomenon, not even a hundred years old. Millions of people across the globe take the day (different day in different countries) as an opportunity to honour their mothers, thank them for their efforts in giving them life, raising them and being their constant support and well-wisher.

Starożytni Grecy jako pierwsi zaczęli uroczyście celebrować Dzień Mamy. Coroczny wiosenny festiwal poświęcano bogini matce Reji, żonie Kronusa i matce wielu bóstw greckiej mitologii. Starożytni Rzymianie również obchodzili festiwal wiosenny, zwany Hilaria, poświęcony bogini Cybele.
Według współczesnej historii, korzeni Dnia Mamy można się również doszukiwać w Anglii z roku 1600. Tak zwana Niedziela Matki obchodzona w czwartą niedzielę postu (40 dniowy okres przed Wielkanocą) poświęcona była Marii, matce Jezusa. Wkrótce potem, podczas tej niedzieli adorowano wszystkie mamy. Po uroczystej mszy ku czci Marii, dzieci przynosiły kwiaty i upominki dla swoich mam.
W USA historia Dnia Mamy kojarzona jest z postacią Anne Jarvis z Południowej Wirginii. Przed Wojną Secesyjną, Anna założyła klub dla matek, uczyła młode kobiety poprawnej opieki nad dziećmi. Po śmierci swojej mamy w 1905 roku, Anna Jarvis zdołała oficjalnie ustanowić Dzień Mamy w celu uhonorowania tego, jak mamy poświęcają się dla swoich dzieci.
W Polsce Dzień Matki obchodzono po raz pierwszy w 1914 roku w Krakowie.
When it all started…
The earliest history of Mother’s Day goes back to the ancient annual spring festival the Greeks dedicated to maternal goddesses. The Greeks used the occasion to honour Rhea, wife of Cronus and the mother of many deities of Greek mythology. Ancient Romans, too, celebrated a spring festival, called Hilaria dedicated to Cybele, a mother goddess.
The more recent history of Mother’s Day dates back to 1600s in England. Here a Mothering Sunday was celebrated annually on the fourth Sunday of Lent (the 40 day period leading up to Easter) in honour of the Virgin Mary, the Mother of Christ. Shortly it became a chance to show affirmation to all mothers. After a prayer service in church to honour Virgin Mary, children brought gifts and flowers to pay tribute to their own mothers.
In the United States the history of „Mother’s Day” begins with Miss Anne Jarvis from South Virginia. In the years before the Civil War, Ann helped to establish “Mothers’ Day Work Clubs” to teach local women how to properly care for their children. Following her mother’s 1905 death, Anna Jarvis conceived of Mother’s Day as a way of honoring the sacrifices mothers made for their children.
In Poland Mother’s Day was celebrated for the first time in 1914 in Krakow.

Różnią nas dni i sposoby świętowania. Najczęściej jednak Dzień Mamy przypada w maju. Zazwyczaj obsypujemy nasze mamy kwiatami, kartkami czy innymi upominkami. Niektóre szkoły organizują specjalne przedstawienia dla mam.
Dzień Mamy to dzień w którym szczególnie doceniamy wszystko co dla nas zrobiła. Uczynienie tego dnia wspaniałym i niezapomnianym wcale nie musi być trudne czy kosztowne. Wystarczy odrobina inicjatywy, takiej jak..

While dates and celebrations vary, Mother’s Day most commonly falls in May and traditionally involves rewarding mothers with flowers, cards and other gifts. Some schools organizes special events and performances to honors all mothers.

Odkąd pamiętam 10 maja ulice pełne są sprzedawców kwiatów. Najpiękniejszy dzień w roku, Dzień Mamy. Szkoły przygotowują specjalne przedstawienia, dzieci śpiewają piosenki dla swoich mam i wręczają własnoręcznie zrobione prezenty. W mojej poprzedniej pracy na Uniwersytecie, każda mama otrzymywała kwiaty oraz pół dnia wolnego, aby świętować wraz ze swoimi bliskimi. Jest to dzień bardzo ważny, prawie tak ważny jak urodziny. Idealny czas na wspólny posiłek, świętowanie i okazanie wdzięczności naszej mamie.
Each 10th of May, you can find people selling flowers on every corner of the streets. The most beautiful day of the year, Mother’s Day. Schools prepare a special event where kids sing songs to their mothers and give them drawings or art crafts done by them. In my previous job at a University, mothers even have half day off to celebrate with their families and they receive flowers at the office. It’s a day so important that sometimes we give moms so many presents so it looks like birthday. It’s a perfect day to have dinner with the whole family and enjoy and show gratitude to our mother.

W tym roku świętujemy Dzień Matki 14 maja (druga niedziela maja). Normalnie zapraszamy mamę na obiad lub kolację oraz kupujemy mnóstwo kwiatów. Niestety, w tym roku nie będę w domu na Dzień Matki, dlatego planuje do niej zadzwonić z życzeniami.
We celebrate Mother’s Day on May 14th (second Sunday of May). Normally we take mothers out for lunch or dinner and buy her lots of flowers. I will not be home for Mother’s Day this year, so I plan to make a call to my mother!!

W miejscu z którego pochodzę Dzień Mamy obchodzony jest w czwartą niedzielę postu. Każdego roku jest to inny dzień, ponieważ zależne jest to od Wielkanocy, która z kolei zależna jest od faz księżyca. W mojej rodzinie, w dzieciństwie chodziliśmy wspólnie w tę niedzielę do kościoła, obdarowywaliśmy naszą mamę kwiatami i dokładaliśmy wszelkich starań, aby był to dla niej dzień wolny od zajęć. Zwykle dawaliśmy również kartkę z życzeniami i kwiaty, o ile tylko pamiętaliśmy o święcie.
Where I come from, Mothering Sunday is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent. The date changes every year because it’s in relation to Easter which is decided by the Lunar calendar. In my family, while growing up we used to go to church on Mothering Sunday, and would give our mother flowers and would make an effort to give our mother the day off! We might give her a card, but there were never any presents beyond a bunch of flowers if we remembered.

We celebrate Mother’s Day the 10th of May every year. Traditionally we all gather with the family to celebrate the queen of the family! We usually go out for dinner or at least spend some quality time with all the moms in the family!

W każdym roku w UK jest to inny dzień, przeważnie jest to niedziela w marcu. Nie ma jednego sposobu na uczczenie tego dnia. Najczęściej dzieci kupują mamie kwiaty. Zdarzają się również małe prezenty oraz czas spędzony rodzinnie.
The date changes every year in the UK but it us normally in March and on a Sunday. There is no set way to celebrate it but most kids buy flowers for their Mums at least. They sometimes buy other gifts and spend the day together as a family.
